If you’ve followed my blog for a while, you know that I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about where to find home. So, now that I have a home in Hawaii, again, what is it like? I have to tell you, while, I am glad to have a place to call home, I am already planning my next adventure. Why? Because, sometimes it’s good not to be home. Too much routine turns into a rut. Here are my reasons why it’s good to get away.
Why Sometimes It’s Good NOT To Be Home
1. I Get To Be Messy
When I’m at home, I’m a complete neat freak. When I travel alone, there is a freedom to be messy, leave my towels on the floor, not make my bed and let the maid come in and clean up behind me. It’s like all of me gets to go on vacation and it’s probably the thing I miss most when I return home.
2. I Get A Break From My Normal Routine
When I’m at home, I follow the same routine. When I’m not at home, every day is different and new. I feel like more creativity flows, and I get new and different ideas when I’m not following a routine. Getting out of the box also means getting out of the box of my home.
3. I Don’t Have To Cook
While I love cooking, I also love eating out and trying new places. The problem is when I’m at home, I often cook because I’m already home and it just seems easier. But, when I’m away from home, I try a new restaurant for every meal, and it’s nice to have someone else cook for me.
4. I Find It Easier To Do Nothing At All
When I’m at home there is always something that needs to be done around the house. When I’m away from home, an entire world opens up. A world where I have longer conversations with people, I have time to sit around the pool and read a book, or just sit and watch the world go by.
Hyatt Regency hotels also understand that sometimes its good not to be home. That is why they have created a new campaign called “It’s Good Not to Be Home.” They know that it’s nice to have the freedom to do things exactly like you want to and they let you do that in their hotels. Check out this video which shows just that.
I think this campaign is brilliant. I hope it encourages more people to step out of their homes, even if it’s just for the weekend, break out of the routine and be open to having a new experience. I’m sure glad I did.
