Ella

Ella train to Nuwara Eliya

Honestly, there’s not a lot to do in Ella, Sri Lanka.  It is  a small town surrounded by tea plantations on the hills and  it is very green and picturesque. There are some beautiful waterfalls to visit and Little Adam’s Peak has a nice view.  You can also climb up Ella Rock for a more intense hike.   Visiting a nearby tea factory is always fun or getting an Ayurvedic massage. The best activity in Ella is taking the train from Ella to Nuwara Eliya or vice versa.  The train ride is simply stunning.
If you do find yourself staying in Ella, I recommend going to Cafe Chill.  It’s not the best coffee I’ve ever had, and it’s a bit overpriced, but the wi-fi is the fastest that you will find in Ella.  The pizza at Dream Cafe is really good as well.
I stayed at the Waterfalls Homestay while there. The view of the waterfall was great, but it is very far down a windy dirt road and you really can’t walk into town here especially at night, so you will have to take a tuk-tuk to get back and forth.  The internet there is also painstakingly slow.  However, the food they cooked for dinner was really delicious.  If you are looking for place to get away from it all and just chill for a few days, it’s a great place. However, if you are there to explore the town, the location isn’t as convenient.
